Felicity Austin joined the University of Huddersfield in February 2015 as Professor of Nursing and Applied Health Research. She started her career as a registered nurse and worked mainly in acute care settings. She completed her PhD (Health Psychology) at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and has enjoyed various roles as a clinical nurse specialist, researcher and lecturer during her career. Her joint appointment, with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, provides opportunities for partnership working with NHS clinicians, patients and carers, and an opportunity to translate research into practice.The research focus has been upon improving healthcare for people with cardiovascular disease. Recent projects have centred upon health literacy and the communication of health information between patients and health professionals. In particular she is interested in patients’ experiences of recovery and their preferences for health information provision, self management support and their views about the meaning of quality of life. Felicity, with colleagues, has successfully attracted several million pounds in funding for projects in both research and education. Felicity has a keen interest in health professional education and has experience in the development of curricula for UK and EU audiences.
